Aricent Unveils OSS / BSS Innovation Lab for Enhancing Service Provider Operations

Aricent, a global innovation, technology and services company announced a new facility and associated services aimed at helping service providers architect and implement the latest in multi-vendor Operational Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) technology. Based upon a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach, the lab highlights how service providers can evolve their existing OSS / BSS solutions as well as rapidly implement new OSS / BSS components in support of advanced services and 4G. Aricent's new Innovation Lab is designed to help operators assess, develop and deploy new business models and improve the overall customer experience.

One example of the frameworks and services available through Aricent's Innovation Lab is a WiMAX reference architecture. Aricent's pre-packaged OSS / BSS solution for WiMAX can enable operators to accelerate time-to-revenue and quickly monetize new 4G services in emerging markets. This solution addresses the fundamental need among WiMAX operators to minimize capital expenditures, while investing in a solution that can scale and adapt to the evolution of new product offerings and business models.

"Aricent's extensive expertise in end-to-end OSS / BSS system integration is evidenced by the fully integrated order management process for WiMAX and Triple Play solutions," said Chun-Ling Woon, vice president of marketing and business development at ConceptWave. "The pre-packaged OSS / BSS solution fully utilizes the ConceptWave Order Management product set and can be conveniently demonstrated to interested operators in the Aricent Innovation Lab."

Advances in mobile devices and connected consumer electronics, new wireless broadband technologies including Femtocells, WiMAX and LTE and a wave of Web 2.0 and cloud-based services are driving significant changes in carriers' OSS / BSS implementations. Aricent's OSS / BSS Innovation Lab helps service providers overcome a number of related challenges, including:

Integrating and Commercializing New OSS / BSS Solutions Based on COTS Platforms - Green field operators in emerging markets are looking for very cost-effective, pre-packaged COTS-based solutions that are highly scalable and can be implemented quickly offering the flexibility to address evolving business models;
Deploying New Network Infrastructure, Including 4G - As operators look to deploy the latest 4G technologies like WiMAX and LTE, optimizing CAPEX and OPEX while trying to quickly recoup investments is critical. Aricent' s lab provides a cost effective feasibility modeling vehicle for implementing new technologies and solutions that involve multiple OSS / BSS vendors;
Delivering and Monetizing Web 2.0 and Cloud-Based Services - Carriers are looking to open network APIs and embrace cloud services, partnering with external vendors to deliver next-generation context aware services like location-based social networking and mobile gaming. As a result, there is a critical need for creating a back office infrastructure that makes it simple for third-party application providers to monetize and roll out services.

The Aricent Innovation lab is initially equipped with COTS products from leading partners including ConceptWave, Hewlett Packard, Oracle and Telcordia. The lab also includes a number of Aricent software products and frameworks, which enable faster roll out of a variety of new services. Aricent will expand the number of partner products that will be integrated in the lab as the partner program continues to grow.

"Aricent has deep domain expertise in wireless and wireline networks, a thorough understanding of OSS and BSS processes and a 15-year heritage working with the leading infrastructure vendors," said Ajay Gupta, sr. vice president at Aricent. "This, combined with a vast and proven implementation capability, makes us a uniquely qualified partner for operators deploying and commercializing new broadband technologies."
